A downloadable weaving

Monkey Wrench is a weaving I created using plain weave, twill, and appliqué. Inspired by Ed Abbey's (yes, I know he is problematic) 1970s eco-anarchist book The Monkey Wrench Gang, I wanted to create something in honor of ecoterrorism.  While the book is from a Western chauvinist perspective, I believe the colloquial idea of monkey wrenching has taken on greater meaning through indigenous struggles against the three C's: corporatization, colonialism, and capitalism.

I live in Atlanta, and watching this city and its neighbors actively fight the construction of cop city through monkey wrenching tactics has been both bittersweet. Joyful seeing the collective power of the masses and heartbreaking, witnessing the murder of activist Tortuguita, RICO charges against 61 defendants, Mayor Andre Dickens refusing to acknowledge our right to a referendum. Originally Muscogee land, the Weelaunee forest is not for franchise and should be returned through land back and left to regrow the now clear-cut ecosystem. May all those who allowed this to happen, suffer to the highest degree for taking what was not theirs to sell.

People everywhere should look to Atlanta for what to expect if a cop city is proposed to be built or constructed in their area.
